Nuruden Oke, Nigeria’s only hope for a medal on Wednesday, has failed to qualify for the finals of the 110m hurdles. Nurudeen who placed second in the 6th heat, with a time of 13.51 seconds, lives abroad.
Meanwhile Muizat Ajoke Odumosu was at the bottom of the pile for the women’s 400m final.
These raise serious questions as to the funding of sports in Nigeria. While Nigerian legislators are paying themselves jumbo salaries and corruption eating deep into the country’s treasury, athletics and sports in general continue to be starved of funds in Nigeria.
Nigeria has not won a single medal at this years Olympics in London.
