EFCC Key to Success of Transformation Agenda- Lamorde

The Executive Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde said that the agency, as the foremost anti-graft body in the country, is critical to the success of the transformation agenda of the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Lamorde, who spoke through Mr. Akanninyene Ezima, Head, Advance Fee Fraud Unit, made the remark Monday June 17, 2013 at the Commission’s headquarters at Abuja while playing host to students of the Security investigation and interrogation Course (SIIC 04/13), Defence Intelligence School, Karu, Abuja on a study tour of the Commission.

Ezima briefed the students on the modus operandi of the commission, its different units and how the agency interfaces with other law enforcement entities.

He informed that the EFCC is saddled with the responsibility of checking the mismanagement of public funds and ensuring that those who break the law are brought to book.

Ezima also informed the visitors that EFCC plays crucial role in the current efforts at fighting the growing wave of terrorism by helping to track the funding trail for terrorist activities.

Speaking also at the occasion, Felicia Bot-Timothy, Head, Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, informed the students that the Commission’s mandate is not limited to enforcement activities only. She said the law setting up the Commission mandates it to put in place measures to prevent the commission of economic and financial crimes. She went on to educate them on the Commission’s enlightenment programmes.

Timothy urged the student to help the Commission in enlightening Nigerians on the dangers of corruption.

The team leader, Lt Col B P Bature thanked the management for receiving them, adding that the visit has broadened their knowledge about the Commission and its place in the nation’s strategic security framework.
