The Nigerian secret Police known as Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday 22nd June, arrested Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, the senator representing Abia South at the National Assembly.
The senator was said to have been arrested at a hotel located in the Maitama District of Abuja, the nation’s capital.
According to Sahara Reporters news media, “the senator is believed to have come under the watch of the DSS since standing as surety for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who hasn’t been seen or heard in public since the Army invaded his home last year”.
Senator Abaribe , who also is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy, had complained on Thursday about the “illegal addition” of N30 billion into the budget of power sector.
“The amount never passed through the senate power committee. Where did such huge sum of N30 billion come from? Let the budget office and other relevant bodies conduct self-examination. Such self-examination will go a long way to clear gray areas.”
The senator had also said he was unhappy that the budget allocation for the Enugu airport terminal was reduced to N500 million from the 2 billion that was first submitted by the executive.
According to him, “no right-thinking Igbo man would support any cut on allocation for projects in the south-east region”.
It will be recalled that President Buhari’s administration recently declared June 12 as democracy day. However many had argued that his regime is very intolerant; works against the rule of law, and dictatorial. Most activities and actions of this administration are everything but democratic. This is a nepotistic, divisive, and incompetent administration. Nigerians are now in fear of a regime they elected into office.
The regime has been likened to a brutal civilian junta, intolerant of any opposition and counter arguments. According to Charles Ogbu Nigeria is currently “presided over by a horde of conscienceless idiots with a mindset deeply rooted in discrimination, injustice and ethnic domination”. It can’t be better put.
